Embracing Unpopularity: The Power of Honest Job Descriptions
➡ How's this for honesty in a job description?
"...is comfortable being unpopular and leans into conflict" 😐
What do you think?
I love it.
➡ Employers: It's great to let people know what they're getting into and what you need from the role before they apply.
That way you're much more likely to get the executives you need.
➡ Job seekers: Your happiness in a job does depend on your leadership style and how that meshes with what the organization needs at the time.
I'm not talking about culture fit.
I'm talking about knowing your strengths, the environments you thrive in, and deeply understanding how the expertise you bring to the table and the way you lead, will benefit the company AND whether you will be happy there.
Once you understand those things, it's easy to tailor your résumé for each role, to show them you've got what they need, and to reach out to contacts with a strong statement about how you can fill the need.
If only every job description was so honest!
